April's Mystery Image

Well, we didn’t have any takers for this month’s mystery image! Perhaps this work was slightly more difficult to identify. This months mystery image is taken from the background of the oil painting called, Of Days Long Past, ca.1959, by Harry Leith-Ross.

As a educator at the Michener, the docents, my colleagues and I often use artworks that depict narrative scenes to encourage storytelling with younger viewers. This work, Of Days Long Past, is one such work that can be successful in gathering some interesting dialogue. What makes this work even more special is that Leith-Ross, created a version of the work in watercolor along with this version using oil paints. In addition, he also created a study of it using conti crayon, a similar art medium to pastel. Read More »
